Sightings of a creature not dissimilar to the mythical Loch Ness Monster have caused a stir in the normally quiet waters of Windermere.

A swimmer and a photographer claim to have seen a “large creature”, dubbed “Bownessie” - in the murky depths.

But Dr Ian Winfield, who has studied the lake for 20 years, has dismissed the “sightings” as nothing more than otters or pikes stirring the water’s surface.” (BBC)
